Hi everyone! While the Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast team was taking the weekend off, the campaign reached two hundred thousand USD. That’s an amazing amount!! We’re so deeply blown away by your support, and we’re excited for what can become possible with your help. In this Indiegogo update, I want to cover the new art by Adam De Souza and talk about two new stretch goals we’re adding to the Indiegogo. So let’s get into it!

The Night Danse by Adam De Souza

(Sketch of the Night Danse by Adam De Souza)

Gertrude pulled herself out of bed and grabbed a flashlight. Surely I’m not the only person that can’t sleep tonight. She thought to herself as she pushed her door open. The light cast impossibly long shadows along the wallpaper, and as Gertrude tiptoed into the hall she could feel an icy chill cling to the back of her pajamas.

What Gertrude didn’t realize is that, while a few of her friends would be awake in these dark and treacherous hours, it was not a safe night to wander the halls of a magical Bed & Breakfast. Perhaps if Gertrude knew what sort of creatures would emerge from their hidden caves and secret nooks to dance beneath the light of the pale winter moon, she would’ve found it wise to stay buried under her blankets and wait until the sun finally rose.

One could only hope.

— Excerpt from Chapter 23: The Longest Night Of The Year

This is another sketch by Adam for the Night Danse. The final dimensions are going to be different, but I really love it as a chance to explore the storytelling and mood variety possible in Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast. I also think this illustration is really cool — there’s so many fun details! It’s gonna be an awesome 2 page spread in the middle of the book.

Two New Stretch Goals

Finally, we’ve finally sorted out the next two stretch goals, and we’re so excited to show them off!

$350,000 — Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast OST

Whether you need atmospheric background music while playing, lietmotifs for the characters, or just good study vibes, the Yazeba’s Soundtrack will be a full album experience that captures those feelings. We’re going to be working with Jordan from the band Naked Lake (they’re the folks who did the Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast theme song) to create a series of looping ambient tunes and lietmotifs for the world of the B&B. We’ll also be working with OMM to integrate this soundtrack into the digital experience.

$400,000 — Hæth Grant

Back in 2020, when our team launched and released Wanderhome, we started an initiative called the Hæth Grant. the idea of the grant was as a way to give creators a strings-free grant to help them springboard their creative endeavors for the project, creating 3rd-party content that is entirely theirs as a way to give back to our community who made this possible. We’re so thrilled to get to bring back the Haeth Grant for Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast, and if we reach this stretch goal we’ll be setting aside $20,000 for game designers, writers, artists, musicians — anyone who wants to apply!

Last time we did the Haeth Grant, we were able to support a ton of content, including multiple amazing expansions to Wanderhome, a soundtrack, an actual play series, and multiple works of fiction. It’s been an awesome way to grow the community, reward creators, and help a ton of amazing designers get their start in TTPRGs and project management. Now we’re bringing this program back with a way bigger fund behind it and plans on how to make it self-sustaining in the future.

That’s All!

We’re going to do a post later this week with more info on merchandise. In the meantime, thank you for reading and I’ll see you next time!

Hey everyone! It’s Jay here, and we’re continuing forward — we’ve almost reached the next stretch goal! I wanted to quickly update everyone on a couple ways to learn more about Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast, along with some new illustrations by the amazing Val Wise depicting some of the guests of Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast.

Exciting Events All Week

Today at 2pm ET / 11am PT (that’s very soon) I’ll be hanging out with Patrick Rothfuss, author of the Kingkiller Chronicles and all around lovely fellow, on his Twitch here: https://twitch.tv/patrickrothfuss . We’ll be talking about Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast, Wanderhome, and creating fantastical worlds.

Tomorrow at 4pm ET / 1pm PT, I’ll be going live on Instagram with Indiegogo! I’ll be talking with Indiegogo senior staff Stacy Bradford about what it’s been like, how the project was developed, what makes a TTRPG stand out — a lot of the nut and bolts of project management on a new platform.

Tomorrow at 9pm ET / 6pm PT, pro GM Alex will be running another chapter of Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast through One More Multiverse on the Possum Creek Campsite! Come watch, and this time we’ll be recording this one for posterity. https://discord.gg/gSeXxh2M?event=955900607443665006

Finally, at 9pm ET / 6pm PT on Friday April 1st I will personally be running a game of Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast on the One More Multiverse Discord server with the OMM team — we’ll be playing a chapter no one’s ever seen before, and pushing both OMM and Yazeba’s to its game design limits. It’ll be awesome — come check it out! https://discord.gg/multiverse?event=957022269165690900

Art of Guests

Val Wise has been working at creating portraits of every single weird fellow you might possibly meet at Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast, from ancient trolls to tiny mushrooms, from biker butches to nefarious skeletons. I wanted to share some of Val’s illustrations with all of you:

Clockwise from the top, allow me to introduce you to five of the fifty guests in Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast — Agate Aventurine, the wise old troll; Dog Dog N’Dog, a cerberus puppy from Hell; Mr. Boggs, a cursed businessman with a soggy disposition; E. Vermi Boletus, a mushroom baby that rapidly doubles in size; and Crookneck the Pumpkin Boy; a nonverbal scarecrow with wisdom to offer.

Bye for now!

The whole team is going to be working extra hard all week, but please don’t be a stranger — come stop by the Campsite on discord and say hi, and reach out if you have any questions. We’re settling into the long haul part of the campaign, so I’ll do another update once we hit the next stretch goal, and we start looking ahead at new merchandise.

about 2 years ago – Fri, Mar 25, 2022 at 10:18:05 AM

Hey everyone! It’s Jay here, and we’re closing out the work week with a genuinely stunning $166K. That’s more than half a Wanderhome! Once again, thank you all, and I’m hyped to approach our next stretch goal.

Before we dig into that, though, you should go listen to the new podcast episode for the Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast Podcast, run by award-winning host Jeff Stormer, and featuring guest stars performer Michelle Nguyen-Bradley, dungeon master Matthew Mercer, and game designer Jeeyon Shim. It’s Chapter 1: A Birthday For Gertrude, it features a ton of fun antics, and it was a lot of fun. I hope you enjoy!

It doesn’t have a transcript yet, but we’re working on it. The other two episodes in the series both have transcripts.

Also, while we’re at it? Have you listened to the full Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast theme song? I think you should. It’s really good to blast at full volume while driving away from somewhere.

Stretch Goal Sketches

The next stretch goal at $200,000 is with Adam De Souza, and will be of a two-page spread in the middle of the book depicting the terrifying Night Dance, the one night of the year when all the nameless formless creatures that live at the bottom of the world crawl up through Yazeba’s wallpaper and dance through the Bed & Breakfast, tormenting any unlucky soul who leaves their room. Here’s a couple sketches Adam has kindly shared in order to show off what that’s going to be like!

The inspiration for this is a lot of old Betty Boop cartoons with Cab Calloway, when the characters traverse psychedelic dream sequences full of monstrosities offering them all sorts of magical things. This entire art looks like it should have St. James Infirmary playing in the background, let’s be real.

What Else Is Going On

As always, there’s a lot of great stuff happening in tabletop games this week that you should keep an eye out! Here are some of my personal favorites. The trans rage jam on itch.io has been roaring away, and I’ve been really enjoying a lot of these games, in marked contrast to Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast. All the submissions are outstanding, and I encourage you to go through the Itch.io jam page if you’re looking for some intense raw trans emotions.

wolves inside me. by Stargazer Sasha is a viscerally intense mapmaking game where you play as werewolves in a dark city. It’s messy in all the best ways, exciting, and powerful.

My dear friend and game design comrade Rae Nedjadi has put up preorders for his political intrigue Forged In The Dark game The Twilight Throne. It’s kickass and fascinating, full of great twists on old systems and the perfect way to approach a darkly magical city full of politics, manipulation, and love.

Finally, Ema Acosta is releasing an expansion to the visually stunning and mechanically genius game Crescent Moon called THE EXILES. Crescent Moon is an outstanding game that a lot of you would really love, and THE EXILES adds a whole new dimension to it — it’s practically a new game in its own right. You should check both out on Kickstarter here — it’s got 6 days left and I’d love for it to hit its final stretch goals.

Fanart

I’m so excited to post some of the first Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast fanart! Karma has been posting art of the characters daily, and I am beyond obsessed. Check out some of these great fan illustrations!

If you made Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast fanart or fanwork you want us to feature, please post it online and tag Possum Creek Games using the hashtag “#YazebasBnB” so we can find it! I’ll do my best to feature more if people create it.

Take Care

Thanks for reading the Friday update! Possum Creek Games is going to take the weekend off, so any questions sent our way after today will be answered on Monday. We appreciate your support and we’ll see you next week!

Stretch Goals

Hi everyone! Ruby here, art director/layout artist/cofounder at Possum Creek. Our next batch of stretch goal announcements include a lot of art I’m excited about so I’ll be talking you through them :)

$150,000 - Expanded Box Set

This brings the box set to the same absolute luxe standard of our upgraded hardcover from yesterday, with all the gold embossing you’ve come to expect from Possum Creek on the hardcover, concierge ledger, and the book-like box to hold all of your tokens, cards, doomsday envelopes, and other play materials. Those play materials are also getting a makeover–a wax seal for those secret envelopes, custom tokens (hey kid face? heartless motif? I’m open to suggestions in the comments) and, most exciting for me, an entirely custom deck of cards by Hana Chatani.

Hana is a queer, Japanese-Pākehā traditional painter and comic artist currently based in Aotearoa. Hana’s comics include “Love Condemns Her”, “Pass the Baton” and “Curiosity Killed my Beia”. Her area of thematic interests and explorations are love, endearment and relationships that are non-romantic, recently beginning to expand on the concepts with elements of horror. Hana thrift-shop crawls for fun and has recently started trying her hand at sculpting, while continuing to deliver cake-cabinet full of colours and short comics to snack on.

Art by Hana Chatani

Her art is colorful but moody, graphic but textural, and overall a perfect fit for Yazeba’s while being entirely distinct from the rest of the art team. For the deck, we’ll get 16 face cards featuring some of our main characters and also some cute suite icons! You’ve already seen the sketches for the back design, but I’m still blown away by this vision – Hana was going for the architectural elements of the BNB itself hidden away from the world in the vegetation of its rural locale.

Deck of Cards Mockup

$200,000 — Full Page Interior Spread by Adam De Souza

This is another exciting one for me!! Because I love all my artists equally ?

Adam de Souza is a cartoonist and illustrator. He has illustrated for magazines, newspapers, children's books and has worked as a designer in animation. He is passionate about comics and is currently working on an unannounced graphic novel as well as his comic strip Blind Alley.

Before working this out I actually really wanted to hire Adam for one of the bigger chunks of art but he is too busy to make me 200 perfect little drawings, so we pivoted to this: one perfect big drawing in the frantic/eerie mood, something we felt was missing from our other illustrations. A big focus of art directing for this book has been how to handle crowds with such a large cast of characters without sacrificing composition (see: the cover) and that’s one of Adam’s premiere talents from his experience in comics.

Samples of Adam's Work

$250,000 — More Merchandise

We’ll be adding a FOURTH pin design, a Yazeba’s mug, and a cute hotel-style keychain! Designs & mockups to come :)

$300,000 — Across The Board Bonus

Everyone’s crowd favorite stretch goal, a bonus for the team!! We have a huge team and they are all immensely talented, and at $300,000 we’ll give everyone a hefty tip to celebrate and share the success of the project.

Pushing This Forward

This is Jay, here to talk about the project management side of things! So, we’re doing really well! We’re outperforming both our predictions and fears, and I’m genuinely so thrilled by everyone’s excitement and energy. However, there’s still a month to go! Most tabletop RPGs crowdfund on Kickstarter, and on Indiegogo we’re just not going to have the same reach, so we would really love your help in amplifying the project. Here’s some things you can do which would mean a ton and help more people be aware of the game:

  • Right now tiktok has a booming community of TTRPG fans! We’re excited about the cosplays and videos we’ve already heard people are planning, and if you want any support for your Yazeba’s content please let us know. We’re posting tiktoks about this game under the hashtag #YazebasBnB
  • While we’re not active on reddit, I know a lot of you are! Some folks on r/RPG are definitely unsure about stuff like the legacy mechanics, so any fans who are in a spot to supportively help explain a lot of the weirder stuff this game is doing would be a huge blessing. There is also the unofficial r/YazebasBnB subreddit!
  • Finally, posting in your facebook groups, sharing an instagram story, or tweeting about the game all mean a ton to us! People underestimate how impactful social media engagement can be for helping fund a project, even if you don’t have a ton of followers.

Finally, if you’re a journalist, podcaster, or other person involved in covering TTRPGs in some form or another, please reach out to us at [email protected]! We have a press kit ready for you and our team would love to talk to you during the campaign.

Other Games Happening Now

It’s a huge week for TTRPGs, and a ton of great games are coming out this week. We can’t possibly hope to highlight all of them, but here’s a few that I really recommend. They might be darker than Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast but in my opinion variety is always a good thing.

Transgender Deathmatch Legend

Transgender Deathmatch Legend is a two-player hex crawl beat-em-up about wrestling and adventure and it looks absolutely incredible. You should go check it out here! https://ratwavegamehouse.itch.io/transgender-deathmatch-legend

TORQ

TORQ is a post-apocalyptic TTRPG about road warriors and high-speed chases. It’s absolutely kickass, and if you’re looking for some high-octane drama, the gorgeous operator’s manual is available now at: https://goodluckpress.co/products/torq?variant=40096513556674

Gravemire

Gravemire is a bayou-themed horror game deep in the Louisiana swamp. It has beautiful illustrations and is now available on preorder here: https://gravemire.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders

Catch Ya Later!

That’s it for day two, everyone—thanks so much for your support and we're so excited to see where this goes next! ?

Tue Mar 22 '22 Announcement
about 2 years ago – Tue, Mar 22, 2022 at 06:42:58 PM

Hi everyone, my name’s Jay Dragon — I’m the project manager of Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast and one of the writers for the game. I’m also gonna be the main person writing project updates, so you can imagine me as your concierge showing you around. I hope you enjoy your stay!

And also, wow. Thank you all so much for your support as we embark on this awesome adventure. We’re all a bit dazed and amazed as this project ramps up — I didn’t even get the chance to post this update before the first two stretch goals were passed. I’m beyond thrilled and grateful and so excited for what this means we can get up to.

Stretch Goals

First, we get to make the hardcover even more gorgeous than it already is. Personally I’m most excited for the (three!) bookmark ribbons and gold-embossed linen cover, but I’m sure Ruby (our art director and graphic designer) has some stuff in store that will absolutely blow my mind.

And then there’s the deluxe digital edition. Honestly I love this one, I love that we get to write extra guests and chapters, and work with the team at OMM to figure out what’s best for the game. We have a few ideas I can’t share with you, but trust me when I say that we’re already brainstorming what mechanics work best in digital.

Our next set of stretch goals is Chapter Illustrations by the incredible Ashanti Fortson! Ashanti is an award-winning cartoonist, illustrator, editor, and professor with a deep interest in difficult emotions, quiet moments, and the rifts and connections between human beings. Their work explores transience and reflection through a tenderhearted lens, and engaging with the vastness and depth of human experience is their creative foundation. Their work has been featured in many print and web publications, and they're always working on too many comics. Ashanti lives in Baltimore with their spouse, their cat Miss Cheese, and at least three pet rats at all times.

Here’s an example of the sort of work they’ll be doing! This is the lineart for for Chapter 5: Another Rainy Day. Their final work will be in full color.

We are not out of stretch goals, not by any means! We have more plans after these three, but we gotta do some business-y stuff with them and so we’re going to wait to announce them until tomorrow!

Multiverse Streams

Speaking of digital, I’m sure you’re wondering what it will be like to play Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast on One More Multiverse! Because this game might be very different from what you’re used to, we’re going to be running demonstrations of Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast in One More Multiverse all month — with the next one being tomorrow! All games are at 9pm EST / 6pm PST and will be recorded and uploaded onto your Youtube channel afterwards. RSVP below at the links to stay updated on when we stream in Discord.

The Breakfast Feast March 23rd

Another Rainy Day March 30th

Firefly Catching April 13th

Additionally, I wanted to remind you about our podcast series, showing off a variety of incredibly talented players with a vast range in experience with games alongside their award-winning host Jeff Stormer. It’s a really fun podcast and the whole team has done an incredible job! Stay up to date with the podcast via Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Youtube, or RSS Feed.

That’s It For Now!

Goodnight everyone — it’s been a long day and I’m excited to get some sleep. Thank you all so much and I’ll catch you all tomorrow! <3
